Morning: the icons of Blaak
09:30 — Markthal and the Cube Houses
Start at Blaak: the Markthal, a horseshoe of apartments wrapped around the Netherlands’ grandest food hall, ceiling fresco and all — breakfast inside. Two minutes away, climb into the Cube Houses (Kijk-Kubus museum house) to understand how anyone actually lives at 45 degrees.
11:30 — The Swan
Walk the riverfront to the Erasmus Bridge and cross it on foot — the Maas wind, the skyline, the harbour cranes. This is Rotterdam’s postcard and it’s better earned than photographed from a distance.
Afternoon: art street, food wharf
13:30 — Witte de Withstraat
Lunch on Witte de Withstraat — Rotterdam’s culture street: galleries (Kunstinstituut Melly), concept shops, terraces, and bars that turn into drag and queer nights after dark. The afternoon crowd here is the city at its best.
16:00 — Katendrecht and the Fenix
Take the water taxi — genuinely the best €5 in Rotterdam — across to Katendrecht, the former harbour quarter, for the Fenix Food Factory: local beer, cheese and harbour views from a repurposed warehouse.
Evening: the compact scene
19:30 — Dinner, then Westblaak
Eat on Witte de Withstraat or in the Markthal, then start the night at Ferry on Westblaak — Rotterdam’s cosmopolitan queer fixture: cocktails, drag bookings and a properly mixed crowd.
22:30 — The circuit
- Bar Loge 90 (Schiedamsedijk) — a landmark of the scene for more than two decades; warm, talkative, Dutch.
- Strano & Regenboog — high spirits and drag bingo energy next door to each other.
- Café KeerWeer — the no-frills late-late room where the night refuses to end.
Everything sits within a 10-minute walk — Rotterdam’s scene does compactness as well as its skyline does scale.
Rotterdam Pride 2026 — late September
The season’s last big European Pride, centred on Willemsplein under the Erasmus Bridge: performances, talks, a Queer Campus and parties across the city. Dates land in the final week of September — confirm the official programme, then book; the city stays affordable even Pride weekend.
