Day 1: The City of Devotees — Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur is a fully pedestrianized museum-city of red brick and carved wood. The 2015 earthquake damaged it, but by 2026 restorers have rebuilt most of the pagodas. Head to Pottery Square, where artisans dry clay pots in the sun.
Must-try: Juju Dhau
Be sure to try Juju Dhau — the “King of Yogurt,” sold in small clay bowls. It is incredibly thick and sweet. This is one of Nepal’s finest food experiences and exclusive to Bhaktapur.
Day 2: Above the Clouds — Nagarkot
11:00 — Ascending the Mountains
After a rooftop breakfast overlooking the Nyatapola Pagoda, your driver will take you up the winding mountain road to Nagarkot (about 1.5 hours).
15:00 — Eco-Resort and the Himalayas
Nagarkot sits at 2,100 meters. The air here is clear and crisp. Check into a hotel with panoramic windows or a balcony. Spend the rest of the day in silence: drink hot masala chai, wrap yourself in a blanket, and watch the clouds drift below your level as the setting sun paints the Langtang mountains purple.
Day 3: Sunrise, Temples, and Return
05:30 — Sunrise over Everest
Wake up before dawn. Step out onto your balcony or the hotel’s observation deck. As the sun rises from behind the mountains, you can make out the jagged line of the world’s highest peaks on the horizon. The moment feels intimate and powerful.
11:00 — Changu Narayan Temple
On the way back to Kathmandu, stop at Changu Narayan Temple, hidden in a pine forest. It is the oldest Hindu temple in the valley, built in the 4th century. Almost no tourists come here. By 3:00 PM, you return to your hotel in Thamel.
