LGBTQ+ in this country
Same-sex marriage has been legal in England, Wales and Scotland since 2014, and in Northern Ireland since 2020. Discrimination is banned under the Equality Act 2010. London's Soho and Vauxhall, along with Brighton, are key queer districts. However, legal gender recognition requires a medical diagnosis (not self-ID), and a 2025 Supreme Court ruling plus the country's falling ILGA-Europe ranking reflect rising tension around transgender rights — trans travellers should check the current situation.
